How to Update WordPress: The Ultimate 2022 Guide
Are you looking for a guide on how to update WordPress? You’ve come to the right place!
In this blog post, we will walk you through the process of updating your website’s software.
We will cover everything from backing up your website to ensuring that your updates go smoothly. Updating WordPress is a very important task, and it’s crucial that you do it properly in order to avoid any problems. So, let’s get started!
First and foremost, you will need to back up your website. This is an essential step that should not be skipped, no matter what.
There are a number of different ways to back up your website, and we recommend using a plugin such as BackupBuddy or VaultPress. These plugins make it easy to create backups of your website and restore them if necessary.
Once you have backed up your website, it’s time to start the update process.
To update your site to the latest version, there are two easy ways. One of them is automatic and another one manual!
We will show both options for you here in this article so that you can make a decision according to what’s more convenient or reliable with whichever method works best for you personally.
Method 1: Updating WordPress using the Built-in System (1-Click)
It’s easy and recommended for all users.
First, go into the admin area on your WordPress website and click dashboard » updates page- you’ll see that there is a new version available! Just hit “update now” to get started with installing it right away.
WordPress automatically downloads and installs the latest version of software. You don’t need to worry about anything! Your site will go in maintenance mode during this process, but it’s important not be distracted by what you see on screen – just let WordPress do its work 🙂
Your site will still be visible to users, but you won’t have access to plugins or themes while the update is underway.
Once you’ve installed the update, we will send a redirect to our welcome screen. You can find out more about what’s new in WordPress and all of its features on this page!
That’s all, you’re now up-to-date with the latest version of WordPress.
Method 2: Manually Update WordPress Using FTP
Manual uploading with ftp is the only way to go when things don’t work as they should.
First, you will need to download the latest version of WordPress. Go to the WordPress download page and click on the Download button.
Upon downloading, your browser should create a zip file containing all the necessary WordPress files. Inside this folder you will find an ” extracts” sub-folder which houses everything needed for updating!
Next, you need to open your FTP client and connect it with the website. Once connected go into “public_html” in folder tab of local files column for this WordPress extraction we just did earlier; that is where all our content will be saved!
Once you have selected all the files, right-click and select Upload from your computer. This will begin uploading WordPress software onto the website automatically!
The update will ask you what to do with old versions of the files. Select ‘Overwrite’ and check box next too.
Always use this action option for greater efficiency in updating your website! This will ensure that all WordPress files on your website are replaced by the newer versions of the files.
When the upload is finished, head over to your WordPress site’s admin area and make sure that everything looks correct.
Sometimes newer versions of software need updating in order for it run properly on our servers too!
If you see this message, then it means your database needs to be updated. Click ‘Update WordPress Database’ and let’s do this!
Your website is now up to date with the latest features and updates.
